Our Staff

Pastor, Rev. Gene Fowler
Born in Paducah, Kentucky, Rev. Fowler started his congregational ministry in churches across Tennessee, and then worked his way across Indiana with stops in Chicago, St. Louis, and finally here in Irondequoit, NY. Both he and his wife Amy are pastors, and relocated to the Rochester area in 2011—Gene as the new pastor of Irondequoit Presbyterian Church and Amy as the new Presbytery leader for the Genesee Valley Presbytery. We feel blessed to have their experience, leadership, guidance, and compassion in our midst, as our church grows and branches out in new ways to serve our community and our world.

Music Director, Kathy Thomas
An active member of IPC since 1964, Kathy Thomas took on the role of Music Director in 1984. An accomplished organist, pianist, flutist, and choir and chimes director, she finds being in charge of instrumentalists and vocalists to be quite challenging, but also very gratifying. Kathy enjoys planning and searching for new and inspiring music to perform, and she loves the teaching aspect of her role—whether working with the choir, the chime ringers, or soloists and ensembles.Over the years, she has felt privileged to work with many of our young people and to watch them grow in their musicality, skills, and confidence. Kathy also finds working with other churches in our community to plan ecumenical services and performances to be particularly rewarding. She credits her love for the hymnody of the Presbyterian Church as something she inherited from her great grandmother, who was also an organist for the church where her great grandfather was minister. Kathy brings great talent, enthusiasm, and commitment to the IPC music program, and we feel blessed to have her with us.

Andrea Coventry
Church Secretary, Andrea Coventry
Church Secretary, Andrea Coventry, returns to her Presbyterian and office roots as the person behind the scenes managing various aspects of IPC. She’s the voice you’ll hear when you call in, the face you’ll see when you stop in, and the one who will be emailing you for a host of reasons. Preparing weekly Worship Bulletins, answering office calls, assisting with newsletters, sorting mail, updating the IPC website, and much more, are all familiar tasks. Andrea grew up in Toledo, Ohio helping her parents in their family-owned furniture business. She came to Rochester in 2003 to teach at a local Montessori school. Recently, she decided to take a break after 20 years of working in all aspects of Montessori, from After School Care programs, to teaching ages 3-6, to administration. Embracing her own past as a Montessori kid, Andrea complements her time at IPC by constantly learning new skills. You can find her crafting, watching sports, reading, writing and blogging for a variety of online publications, promoting indie authors while also working on her own books, running social media, enjoying the local music scene, providing child care to her friends and local families, as well as respite care for families whose children have special needs. A lover of nature, she can also be found wandering local parks and beaches, documenting her adventures with her trusty camera.

Sexton, Timo Huttunen
The first person at the church on Sunday mornings is Sexton Timo Huttunen. Timo first took on the role of Sexton in 2003, and he works with great dedication and commitment to ensure that the church building is clean and set-up for Sunday services, funerals, weddings, and special events. Timo is a native of Ithaca, NY. He moved to the Rochester area in 1999 and currently resides in Webster with his wife and young son. Timo returns to the Ithaca area on a weekly basis year round to maintain his family’s Christmas tree farm. From waxing floors and cleaning carpets, to dusting and vacuuming, Timo is always fighting the “devil of dirt” to keep God’s house clean for all to worship in and enjoy.
