Poverty and hunger are pressing issues in every community and across every demographic. The congregation at Irondequoit Presbyterian Church has long supported community organizations that provide assistance to those in need of basic food supplies and toiletries. Through food and financial donations and volunteer efforts on-site, IPC members do their part to help combat hunger in our community.
The Community Food Cupboard of Rochester was founded in 1979, and currently delivers food supplies monthly to some 572 households in the northeast Rochester area. The Cupboard seeks to provide food to families and seniors when these individuals cannot provide an adequate diet by their own means. Referrals are received from social agencies and clergy following assessment of each individual’s needs. Emergency walk-ins are also helped any time during regular office hours.
Donors can drop off food items at the church, the Food Cupboard office, and also volunteer to help out at the center on 11 Nester Street (see hours and contact information below). Monetary gifts are also welcome.
