Members of IPC should be very proud of their contribution again this year to “People’s Ministry in Christ”.
The mittens, hats scarves and gloves deposited on the “mitten tree” during the Christmas season were delivered to People’s Ministry – a street ministry who opens their doors to anyone who comes by their Dewey Ave storefront and looking for a place to rest, read together, participate in a bible study or just hang out.
been providing warm clothing items for many years. The interesting thing is that this annual activity has taken o n a life of its own. For several years now, the committee that used to sponsor it has not existed. But every year there are members of the congregation that ask about when the tree is going up.
This year the donations included
• 26 pr gloves – 21 for kids, 4 for adults, 1 hat and glove set
• 43 hats – 28 purchased, 4 purchased with tassels and 11 hand-knit*
• 7 sets of hand knot hat and scarf sets*
• 1 headband
• 1 pr mittens
* I would like to specifically make note of the fact that Marry Lauer knit the beautifully created hand-knit hats and hat/scarf combinations (11 hats and 7 hat/scarf sets). Thank you Mary – for your dedication to our church and to this ministry.
This year we received a beautiful “thank you” card from the ministry signed by a dozen of the members there and also a very nice note. You will find them both displayed on the bulletin board in the 2nd floor hall on the way to coffee hour for a while – check them out. They will make you proud of what we can do to help others in our community..
Thanks to all that participate (and especially for those who ask every year if we are going to be doing it again)! You make me realize what a special group of people we worship and fellowship with
